6-ROX is primarily used as a reference dye for PCR detection. However, 6-ROX is very unstable compared to other rhodamine dyes. 6-ROXtra, on the other hand, greatly improves stability and water solubility, and has almost the same spectral characteristics as 6-ROX. The 6-ROXtra dye is stable for several weeks at room temperature, making this fluorescent dye an excellent alternative to the 6-ROX PCR reference dye.
